To better prepare for your START session please we ask that you do the following before your START session:

Take the Required Online Math Placement Test:

Regardless of AP scores or previous college level math credit all first-year students must take the Math Placement test before attending their START session. Transfer students who have no transferable college algebra credit or placement credit will need to take the Math Placement Test.This test along with transcripts and any AP/IB scores or college credits will be used in your advising session to determine which math course you will be most successful in. If you do not complete the test before your START session, your class registration time at START will be delayed.

Set up your OSU email account, also known as ONID:

Apply for Housing (if you have not done so):

All first-year students are required to live on campus per OSU policy.  If you have not done so, please apply for housing prior to your attendance at START.  If you are seeking an exemption to this policy, please see the Policy Page for steps. 

Requesting an accommodation related to a Disability

If you or your parent and family member attending will need an accommodation related to a disability, please request by completing this form

Other Tasks

    • Upload a picture for your OSU ID Card. Please visit for directions on how to complete this.  If you do NOT do this ahead of time you will be required to take your picture at the program.
    • Ensure final transcripts are sent to the Office of Admissions, Oregon State University, 104 Kerr Administration Building, Corvallis, Oregon 97331-2106.
    • Need to change your major? You can change your major when you check in for START at the Change of Major table or change it online here.
    • Paying your Student Account. All START charges are placed on your student account, this link provides helpful tools/ information on your student account.
    • Foreign Language Placement. Students with previous training or experience in a second language who do not have advanced placement or college credit are required to take a foreign language assessment before enrolling in a language course.

    • Copy of your START Confirmation and Parking Pass
    • Comfortable Walking Shoes
    • Government Issued Photo Id
    • Bring a copy of your SAT and/or ACT scores or any other university transcripts
    • Clothes and Toiletries for Overnight
